Tesla Electronics Test and Automation Group (ETAG) is the main point of contact to ensure the highest quality vehicle, silicon and robotics electronics for our customers. Our mission is to develop test automation equipment, architect software automation framework, and provide hardware/software/data infrastructure for Tesla electronics communities worldwide.

We are seeking a highly skilled engineer to provide on-site support for Manufacturing Test of low-voltage electronic hardware. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and debugging testers, as well as analyzing issues on both the tester and product sides. This individual will collaborate with test engineers to ensure the maintenance of manufacturing tests at contract manufacturers worldwide. Additionally, the candidate will work closely with Failure Analysis (FA) engineers to investigate product failures, serving as the primary point of contact for initial failure analysis and response.

This team concentrates on mechanical, electrical and software design of reliable testers and tools for all production vehicles. We're seeking a skilled and motivated Manufacturing Test Engineer to join us. As a key member of our team, the candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement test solutions that meet the highest standards of quality and reliability. Project timelines can be as short as a few weeks, producing equipment to test and assist in the assembly of the vehicle programs on the bleeding edge of Tesla’s innovation. What You’ll Do

  • Maintain and optimize existing automated test equipment and software for low-voltage electronic hardware, particularly for Radio Frequency (RF) products, ensuring ongoing production efficiency and quality
  • Troubleshoot and resolve test-related issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and implement corrective actions
  • Support the sustainment of production test specifications, schematics, and technical documentation for electronic hardware
  • Develop and implement test process improvements, including test software and hardware updates, to ensure compatibility with changing product requirements
  • Collaborate with suppliers to resolve test-related issues, provide technical support, and ensure compliance with test specifications and procedures
  • Analyze and address test equipment failures, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences
  • Ensure compliance with quality and regulatory requirements, maintaining accurate records and documentation of test results and equipment maintenance


  • What You’ll Bring

  • Technical expertise: Proficiency in Python development on Linux platforms, with experience in troubleshooting and optimizing existing codebases.
  • Electronics troubleshooting and repair: Hands-on experience in debugging and repairing electronic circuits and systems, with a strong understanding of electronic principles and troubleshooting techniques.
  • RF test expertise: Experience with RF test equipment and techniques, including spectrum analysis, signal generation, and RF signal processing, with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize RF test systems and ensure compliance with RF standards and regulations.
  • Problem-solving and quality skills: Proven experience with Lean Six Sigma, GRR and other problem-solving methodologies, with a strong ability to analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions.
  • Manufacturing process knowledge: In-depth understanding of electrical product test manufacturing processes, including test coverage and optimization across different machines and production lines.
  • Cost-conscious and process-oriented mindset: Ability to balance technical requirements with cost constraints, and continuously monitor and improve existing hardware and software frameworks to ensure optimal efficiency, reduce costs, and maintain high product quality.
  • Travel and on-site support: Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region to provide on-site technical support to contract manufacturers, troubleshoot issues, and ensure seamless production.
